History Of Homemade Burgers

Originally, the hamburger is a word derived from Hamburg, Germany. There was a certain kind of steak that was very popular in Germany in the 1700s, and it was called the Hamburg Steak. When the time came that sailors and Germans came to America, they brought this delicious dish with them. Come 1800s, as a sign of American ingenuity, the Hamburg Steak evolved into the Hamburger. A Texan named Fletcher Davis, who owned a restaurant named the Texan Café, offered a meal to his guests with grilled ground beef sandwiched in a bun. This dish was called the Hamburger. At that time, a lot of meat grinders were sold in the market because American homes would often want to keep one with them so they can make their own Homemade Burgers.

Homemade Burgers are now not only limited to beef as its meat. Again, as a sign of American ingenuity, Americans always have a knack of spicing recipes up a bit. Today, there are Homemade Burgers that are made of ground turkey meat, ground pork, ground chicken, ground venison, ground lamb, and there are even Homemade Burgers out there that are especially made for vegetarians. Homemade Burgers for vegetarians are usually made of portabella mushrooms. They taste good that one would almost not even know that they are mushrooms instead of meat. This only proves that hamburgers are not really junk food, especially when they are homemade.

Burgers are actually very rich in nutrients and proteins because it is, or at least most of the time, made of meat. In the past, most patties were made of left over chunks of beef. Today, as people are becoming more health conscious, burgers, especially Homemade Burgers, are now taken from the round, chuck or sirloin of the animal. This only makes the burgers more flavourful than the past burgers. At the same time, people become more confident in their food because they know where they are from, unlike in the past when the patties are just made of different scraps of left over beef.

Some Types of Burgers

1. Vegetable burgers. These are made out of vegetables and they are actually very easy to make by yourself if you chose to. They are healthy due to the many minerals and vitamins found in the vegetables, plus they contain a lot of fiber.

2. Soy burgers. These are as close as you can get to tasting a real burger. They are made out of soy or wheat protein and the texture and flavor is almost identical to a red meat burger. Even though a soy hamburger contain more calories that a veggie one, it’s still low in fat and a healthy choice.

3. Burgers made out of grains. These burgers contain the lowest number of calories than any other burger, but their texture is different and they are not very tasty. One way to make brain-bases burgers more tasty is to add different condiments. Salt, pepper, onion, tomatoes are all some good choices when it comes to spicing up your burger.

4. Tofu burgers. These hamburgers contain a lot of proteins and they are actually made out of soybeans. They do not taste great but by adding some barbeque sauce and some vegetables on the side tofu burgers become one of your favorite meals.
